The Ramnagar Fort is one of the oldest fort in Varanasi and located about 14 km far from Banaras. It looks more attractive as it is situated on the bank of river Ganges. It is the ancestral fort of the King of Benares; the Maharaja Balwant Singh. The fort was manufactured by the king in the eighteenth century using red sandstone. The Ramnagar fort has a variety of temples and a big museum within its grounds. The temple in the fort is dedicated to the great Indian epic the Ved Vyasa, who wrote the Mahabharata.
The fort has a rare collection of religious writings, manuscripts of Tulsidas in the Saraswati Bhawan within the Ramnagar Fort.
