Pandit Ravi Shankar was born on 7 April at 1920 in Varanasi. He was a contemporary Indian musician and composer. He was master in the instrument sitar. He worked as a composer and create music for Apu Trilogy by Satyajit Ray. He worked as a music director of All India Radio in New Delhi from 1949 to 1956. He became upper chamber member of the Parliament of India from 1986 to 1992. Pandit Ravi Shankar was awarded with the Bharat Ratna and got three Grammy Awards in 1999 for India’s highest civilian honor. He continued performing till 2000 with his daughter Anoushka.

Won Silver Bear Extraordinary Prize in 1957 in Berlin International Film Festival for composing music for movie Kabuliwala.
Awarded with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1962.
Named a Fellow of the academy in 1975
Awarded with Padma Bhushan in 1967
Awarded with Padma Vibhushan in 1981
Awarded with Bharat Ratna in 1999
Awarded with UNESCO International Music Council in 1975 with three Grammy

Awards

Received the Kalidas Samman from MP Government in 1987–88.
Got Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 1991.
Got Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1992.
Got Polar Music Prize in 1998.
He became honorary member of American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1997.
He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Melbourne University, Australia.
